Great news – the web alpha version of MetaPractice is now publicly released! To use it, use the following URL: https://teacher.metapractice.net.
Being an alpha version means that all of the core functionality will work, but some smaller features and edge cases have not been coded yet. So, unless you encounter a bug that is debilitating and prevents you from using it altogether, there is no need to report issues for this version; chances are, we already know about them.
Updates to the web version will be quick! Whenever we update the iPhone version, we always have to wait for the Apple Developer Program to approve it (usually 24-48 hours), then it takes another 24 hours after that for the approved app to propagate through the worldwide Apple app store servers. Such obstacles are non-existent with the web version.
Feel free to share this news with others, but if you do, please include the alpha version caveat too! We want to make sure that the nature of an alpha release matches the expectations of newcomers.
A few months ago, we promised that we would release the web version in November. We made it, by the skin of our teeth! We were hoping to release it in the middle of November, but the revamped student practicing interface was a major change that took longer (more tweaks) than expected. It was essentially a complete rewriting of the code that generates “practice steps” for students. MetaPractice is incredibly powerful because of its endless possibilities with categories, subcategories, goals, notes, media, notes attached to goals, media attached to categories, notes attached to media… not to mention covering six variations of all these things (Goal Guidance on/off combined with being set to Beginner, Skilled or Advanced Mode). That means there were a LOT of edge cases to address to get everything to run smoothly! But as a teacher myself with all the feedback I’ve gotten from my own students, I know it was worth it!
Happy teaching!
