FAQ

Giving Lessons

On the student’s information screen, choose Edit to edit the student’s goalbook. Select Templates, then choose Create. Make whatever changes you wish to the template before saving (the changes in the Template interface will not affect the student’s actual goalbook), then Save the template.

Next to each category, subcategory, or goal, you will find three vertical dots. These are called overflow options. Tap on any of these overflow options, and you will find options to Add Audio, Add Image, etc.

Every time you do anything while giving a lesson in MetaPractice, your work is automatically saved on your device.  If you accidentally close MetaPractice or if it (heaven forbid) crashes in the middle of a lesson, simply re-open MetaPractice, give a lesson to the student whose lesson was interrupted, and MetaPractice will resume it, treating it as a postponed lesson.

Write a short version of the goal. Once added, tap on the goal’s overflow options to Add a Note to the goal, and you can make the note very long if you wish!

Management

You have two options:

  1. Go to icloud.com, login, and add files to your iCloud “Files” area.
  2. Copy all media files into your computer’s iCloud Drive. (If you have a PC, you’ll have to install Apple iCloud first if you haven’t already.) These files will quickly sync with your iPhone or iPad, and once they do, you can go into your MetaPractice media library and import them.

The number of available student slots will increase immediately after the purchase. Both the app store and Stripe use their own proration methods so that you don’t lose money when you upgrade or downgrade in the middle of your previously purchased period.

Example 1 – upgrading: You subscribed to 25 slots for a year, and after 7 months you decide to upgrade to 30 slots. Depending on whether the subscription is handled through the app store or through our website (Stripe), you get charged for the additional 5 slots for the remaining 5 months, or you pay a full 1 year fee for 30 slots but get a refund for the remaining 5 months of 25 slots. Either way you don’t lose money.

Example 2 – downgrading: You subscribed to 25 slots for a year, and after 7 months you decide to downgrade to 20 slots. In the app store, you initially pay nothing and remain subscribed to the 25 slots until the end of the subscription (12 months) and then it will charge you for 20 slots. Stripe will either do the same, or they will switch you to a lower tier immediately and refund the money as credits usable for your next purchase.

Practicing

Postpone practice! MetaPractice has a Postpone practice feature after tapping on the Back button (upper left corner) during practice. It is HIGHLY recommended that all students who use MetaPractice be required to view the videos in the Help section. Simply tell your students to tap on the “?” icon at the top of the screen while practicing, and view all of the videos there, especially the one on Pausing and Postponing Practice. You can see the videos right here on the MetaPractice website.

Platforms

Yes!  Both teachers and students can access the web version of MetaPractice at:

teacher.metapractice.net

student.metapractice.net

Yes!

  1. You can have Completed or Edited lesson results emailed to the student or the student’s parents automatically. While giving a lesson, tap on Lesson Options, and you’ll see the “Email Lesson Results To” option. You could also enter your own email address, and once you receive the email, you could print the goals out and hand them to your student.
  2. Sometimes Android users will have iPads at home. Remember that iPads can run iPhone apps. The apps do not stretch to the full width of the iPad – they are the shape of a phone on the iPad screen, but they still work just fine!
  3. To sign up a student up who doesn’t have an iPhone, simply download both the Teacher and Student apps onto your own iPhone or iPad. In the student app, create the student’s account using their email address. (If the student is under 18, be sure to get a parent’s permission first.) Then connect the two accounts by either entering the student’s ID into the teacher app, or by entering the teacher’s ID into the student app. Once connected, log out of the student app so that you can repeat the process again for other students who don’t have iPhones.
  4. Believe it or not, we don’t care if you assign fake email accounts to your students! We do not verify student email addresses. The email address simply acts right now as a unique identifier field for each student in the MetaPractice user database.
